Dennis’ 7 Dees Landscaping and Garden Centers is extending a philanthropic hand to a local social service agency that combats homelessness and poverty in some of the poorest neighborhoods in Multnomah County, Ore.

For the fifth consecutive year, Dennis’ 7 Dees will host the Changing the Landscape of Homelessness” golf tournament to benefit Human Solutions, the largest provider of shelter and housing to low-income and homeless families in the greater Portland area. Last year’s tournament raised about $30,000 to support the organization’s emergency shelter and housing programs, as well as employment training for individuals with barriers to living wage jobs.

More than 110 golfers are expected at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Ore., on Sept. 13. “We are very invested in furthering Human Solutions’ mission to alleviate homelessness and poverty for families in our community,” said company President Dave Snodgrass. The goal is to raise $50,000 at this year’s tournament, Snodgrass said.

Dennis’ 7 Dees also teamed with Human Solutions on the first day of summer to teach low-income children and their families how to plant flowers, herbs and vegetables and kick-off a campaign to foster a love of gardening and healthy eating. Dennis’ 7 Dees employees helped children transplant seedlings into larger containers that could then be tended by their families until harvest time. Dennis’ 7 Dees donated all the materials for the event.
