The Outdoor Power Equipment Institute (OPEI) is 60 years old this year. Here’s a tip of the cap to the international trade association that represents the manufacturers and suppliers of consumer and commercial outdoor power equipment.

The OPEI does a lot of neat things. Apart from the work it does on behalf of the folks that make and distribute the products that we use to keep our urban environments safe and attractive and its active participation in legislative and regulatory affairs and the work, it also sponsors the annual huge GIE+OPEI Expo at the Kentucky Expo Center in Louisville. This year’s event is Oct. 25-26 (with a Dealer Day Oct. 24). It will be here before you know it.

Thousands of landscape and grounds pros flock to the event annually because of the educational sessions, the networking and, of course, to see equipment, tools, products and materials that they need. One of the biggest attractions to the event is the 19-acre outdoor demonstration area. Attendees are invited to demo everything from handheld equipment to mowers to mechanized construction equipment.

But back to the OPEI.
