Turf magazine congratulates the three winners of STIHL equipment from its recent reader survey. STIHL generously provided the landscape gear in conjunction with Turf‘s reader survey, and the names of the winners were randomly selected from a list of readers answering all 25 questions in the survey.
Steven Gerner of Bigfoot Landscaping, Kalispell, Mont., won a STIHL KM 90 R KombiMotor with BG-KM blower and FS-KM straight shaft trimmer attachments. Gerner’s two-year-old company offers landscape design, installation, maintenance and lawn care, as well as snow and ice removal. It also provides vacation or seasonal home care.
"Being a young business with a tight budget and growing fast, this allows me to move some funds to other equipment, along with now being able to have another worker perform some of the same tasks, which will save time," says Gerner. "I look forward to putting this new equipment to use."
Luke Funderburk, owner of Luke’s Lawns in Clarksville, Tenn., earned a STIHL BG86 hand-held blower. "The blower I won in the contest will help as my other hand-held blower is on its last leg and very hard to start," says Funderburk.
Offering basic lawn care, small tree trimming, hedge and bush trimming and aerating, among other services, Funderburk recently started his business to help with medical bills for his special-needs daughter. Due to his own injuries, he has had to reduce his client list within the last year, and only handles those customers that are or were deployed. Being a U.S. veteran himself, he says, "I take pride in caring for other soldiers’ properties, and have made several friends that way."
The STIHL SG 20 manual backpack sprayer went to George Harkins. Harkins has owned his business, SJH Lawns & Landscaping, for five years. Located in Bennington, Vt., he offers services such as mowing and trimming, shrub pruning, snowplowing, and fall and spring clean ups. He does do a little spraying and says the backpack sprayer will be easier to use around houses and locations where hand-spraying is necessary.
