At New England GROWS, December 2-4 in Boston, green industry professionals from across the Northeast come together to learn the latest science and techniques in commercial horticulture and arboriculture. With more than 30 seminars, fast-paced Sprint Sessions, and hands-on training on the show floor, arborists and other tree care professionals can choose from a wealth of educational sessions taught by leading practitioners and scientists.
Two of the world’s foremost tree experts, David Milarch and Dr. Michael Dirr, are among the speakers. The founder of the Archangel Ancient Tree Archive, David Milarch is on a critical mission to propagate the world’s most important old growth trees before they are gone and to reforest the earth with their offspring to provide beneficial ecosystem services essential for all life forms to thrive. He’ll share his vision for the future in “Cloning the Giant Trees: An Urgent Plan to Save the Planet.”
Renowned author Dr. Michael Dirr will explore the rich and diverse genetics of North American trees and highlight the best-adapted species and cultivars for New England in his talk, “In Praise of Noble Trees.” In a second session, Dr. Dirr shares “A Cornucopia of New Flowering Trees and Shrubs,” along with best practices for their selection, use and culture.

A special program on the trade show floor will dive into safe and skillful chainsaw handling techniques and best cutting methods. Chainsaw expert Ken Palmer, of ArborMaster Training, will explain and demonstrate the latest and safest methods using top and rear handle saws, as well as new battery technology. He’ll share the importance of laser-like concentration, skill and intention while using chainsaws. Some attendees will be selected for skills-development competitions.
Registration starts at $29 for all three days of the conference, with early registrants realizing the most savings.
