Bartlett Tree Experts Vice President Scott Jamieson has been recognized with a Certificate of Distinction, the top honor of the Purdue University Agricultural Alumni Association. The award recognizes “contributions to agriculture—and society in general—that go far beyond the requirements of a job or profession.” Scott was among six recipients from around the country to receive the award.

As vice president of Bartlett Tree Experts, Jamieson is responsible for corporate partnerships and national recruiting in 27 states. He also is director of Bartlett Inventory Solutions, a digital system for conducting tree inventories to develop interactive tree-management and tree-preservation plans. Over his 30-year career in the green industry, he has been actively involved in a variety of national, statewide and local industry and civic organizations.

In granting the award, the alumni association noted that Jamieson has devoted his career and much of his civic contributions to advancing the tree care profession, keeping arborists safe, protecting and enhancing the urban forest and empowering others to be environmental stewards.

He has served national professional organizations, including as president of the Professional Land Care Network (PLANET, which is soon to be renamed the National Association of Landscape Professionals), chair of the Tree Care Industry Association, board member of the National Safety Council and board member of the Alliance for Community Trees, among others.

The hallmark of Scott’s tenure as chair of the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) was a focus on safety. One way he helped inspire companies to strive for greater safety was to support a TCIA company accreditation program. This “Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval” for tree care companies is a way to instill greater confidence in consumers of tree care services and distinguish conscientious companies. Since having a solid safety record and safety programming are among the criteria for accreditation, seeking accreditation impels companies to examine and enhance their safety efforts.

While on the board of PLANET, he has played a number of roles in an effort to enhance the effectiveness of the organization in serving its members. He has been deeply involved in developing the organization’s recently unveiled, new brand. That effort is an outgrowth of creation of a new strategic plan for PLANET, in which Jamieson was integral.

He is also currently heading a leadership-development program for PLANET volunteers. This new benefit of membership will help recruit volunteers and give them valuable professional skills. He has served as governance chair and, before becoming a board member of the organization, served on a task force that helped solidify an overall reorganization of the association.

The Certificate of Distinction is the second award Jamieson has received from Purdue University, having earlier received the College of Agriculture Distinguished Agriculture Alumnus Award. He is also been recognized with a Polaris Leadership Award from the Midwest Ecological Landscaping Alliance and a Leadership Award from Lawn & Landscape magazine.
