HESSTON, Kan. – Fifty years ago a Kansas governor cut the ribbon to open Excel Industries, based here.
This year, the current governor took a tour of the plant and publicly recognized the company for its work in foreign markets.
Excel Industries was formally recognized as the 2013 Governor’s Exporter of the Year winner during the visit. The governor toured the facility, which manufactures Big Dog and Hustler lawn mowers.
Excel Industries has grown by about 25 percent each year for the past two years, and topped $210 million in sales in 2013. Much of that growth has happened in the area of exports.
