PALM COAST, Fla. – Because lawns are more dormant during the cooler parts of the year, Palm Coast, Fla., is restricting irrigation to one time per week, following the policy set forth by the regional water district.
The restrictions go into effect this Sunday and continue through March 9, 2014.
During the five-month period, odd-numbered residential addresses will be permitted to irrigate on Saturday and even-numbered residential addresses will irrigate Sunday. Business or commercial property owners may irrigate every Tuesday.
Irrigation is limited to .75 inch of water per irrigation zone and no more than one hour per irrigation zone. Hand-held hoses equipped with automatic shut-off nozzles are allowed to be used at any time, according to a Palm Coast media release.
Landscape irrigation can account for more than half of the water use at a residential location, so such restrictions are necessary to preserve water, said Monson.
The restrictions apply to water withdrawn from ground or surface water and from a public or private well or pump or from a public or private water utility. They do not apply to reclaimed water or stormwater, according to the city.
