John Deere Landscapes in Mashpee, Mass., helped Hope In Bloom plant a garden at a breast cancer patient’s home.
Hope In Bloom plants gardens free of charge for Massachusetts’ residents undergoing breast cancer treatment. It was founded by Roberta Dehman Hershon in honor of her lifelong friend that she lost to breast cancer.
John Maher, branch manager of John Deere Landscapes, donated rail fencing to enclose a vegetable garden, and recruited and organized volunteers from other John Deere Landscapes’ locations and local contractors to donate materials and labor. The group renovated the lawn and planted a vegetable garden at the home of Alison McCutchen in East Orleans, Mass. This was the 96th volunteer-planted garden, and Hope In Bloom has over 200 people on the waiting list.
