OTTAWA, Ont. – On Friday, Nov. 1, starting at 8 a.m., Ottawa area landscaping, nursery and maintenance companies who are members of Landscape Ontario will donate their time and services to maintain the National Military Cemetery (NMC) at Beechwood. Ottawa Chapter Day of Tribute is a way to show their respect to the Canadian Forces men and women who have served Canada, some making the supreme sacrifice. Currently, over 25 Canadian Forces men and women who died in Afghanistan are buried at the NMC.

Event Chairperson Retired Canadian Forces Chief Warrant Officer Pete Campbell Geosynthetic Systems, and local member companies will spend time at the NMC aerating and fertilizing the lawns, cleaning up the flower beds and pruning trees. The work is being done to help prepare the site for Remembrance Day on Nov. 11 at the NMC.

Starting at 8 a.m., Roger Boult, executive director of Beechwood Cemetery along with representatives from the Department of National Defense Chief Warrant Officer and The Canadian War Graves Commission will be on hand to thank the volunteers for their valuable contribution to the National Military Cemetery.

Beechwood was named the National Cemetery of Canada in April 2009 by an Act of Parliament. It is the home of the National Military Cemetery, the RCMP National Memorial Cemetery and is a National Historic Site. It is owned and operated by The Beechwood Cemetery Foundation, a not-for-profit organization and registered Canadian charity.
