An increased volume of business combined with growing inventories and larger pieces of equipment are at the heart of Green Line Equipment’s new building project. The John Deere equipment dealership in Grand Island, Neb., is moving from its 30,000-square-foot existing building into a new 54,000-square-foot facility.

Greg Rerucha, great-grandson of the dealership’s founder and aftermarket manager of the dealership’s eight-site business, said his family has discussed and planned the new facility over a five-year period.

Greg’s great-grandfather Alvin Southard established the equipment dealership in St. Paul, Neb., in 1934, originally known as Southard Implement. Alvin’s son Clarence joined him in the business, and Clarence’s son-in-law Lynos (Greg’s father) came into the business in 1961.

In addition to the fact that Green Line’s services are housed in several different buildings at the current site, they have had to set up two temporary offices in their showroom and remodel what was once a closet to give two other staff members a work area. Also, they’re finding a need for overhead cranes and know that their repair and maintenance services aren’t as efficient as they could be because work areas are located in two different buildings.

The new shop features two overhead cranes, fans that will help keep employees cooler in summer heat, and larger, more numerous parts bins to accommodate John Deere’s expanding line of equipment.
