On June 25-28, nearly 200 members, including 25 sponsors, attended the Oregon Seed Association’s annual summer convention at Salishan Spa & Golf Resort, where over $11,000 was raised for their scholarship program. This year’s convention achieved a 12 percent increase in attendance over previous years and featured guest speakers Dr. Rick Brinkman, author of Dealing with People You Can’t Stand;” Jake French, author of “Life Happens. Live it!;” and Chris Holdgreve, executive director of Excellence Through Stewardship. OSA continues to experience a growth in membership, and new members approved during the convention included Integrated Seed Growers, Lebanon Seaboard, ERC Machinery USA, Independent Dispatch, Inc. and Sea Tac Packaging. Seminis Monsanto and John Zuelzer & Son Canada LTD, were also welcomed into the association, further establishing OSA’s mission of fostering cooperation and communication among members, suppliers, customers and regulators throughout the state, the nation and the world. Funds raised at this year’s convention for the scholarship program totaled almost $11,000. This money came from silent auction bids, cash donations and other fundraising activities. The OSA Scholarship Committee recognized two talented young men as recipients of the OSA Memorial Scholarship, an award presented to a child or grandchild of a current member who is pursuing higher education. Chase Cochran, a student at Oregon State University, and Riley Merrigan, who starts at University of Idaho in the fall, each received $1,500. An additional $1,500 OSA scholarship was awarded to Morgan Aerni, a sophomore at Oregon State University.
