KANSAS CITY, Mo. – PBI-Gordon Corp., the maker of Lambert Kay and PRN Pharmacal pet products, has acquired competitor PetAg Inc., whose product lines include Bene-Bac and Energel nutritional supplements for dogs and cats.

The value of the transaction was not announced, but employee-owned PBI-Gordon reported Wednesday that it obtained all shares of Hampshire, Ill.-based PetAg.

This strategic expansion gives PBI-Gordon Corp. a more robust offering within the pet health care products sector,” said Don Chew, president and CEO of the Kansas City, Mo., company.

PetAg, founded by the now-shuttered consumer products company Borden Inc., became a separate entity in 1986. Its health and wellness products are sold to veterinarians and owners of dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles and small animals.

Besides supplements, PetAg makes milk replacers, rawhide and jerky treats, and feeding supplies under brand names such as Esbilac, Mirra-Coat, PetLac, Zoologic and Pink Parrot.

PetAg President and chief operating officer Darlene Frudakis will stay on as president of strategic trade development for the PetAg and Lambert Kay product lines.

“PetAg’s current managers and staff will continue to provide our customers with the highest quality products and customer service,” Frudakis said.

PBI-Gordon also makes products for the agricultural, landscape and livestock markets. Its Lambert Kay pet health care line features Fresh ‘n Clean shampoo and odor eliminators, Prozyme supplements and Evict wormers.

The company’s PRN Pharmacal veterinary selection ranges from pharmaceuticals and nutritional supplements to wound care dressings and diagnostic tools.
