HERNDON, Va.-Planning for the Professional Landcare Network’s (PLANET’s) fourth annual Day of Service taking place on Friday April 20, 2012, has begun. PLANET Day of Service is a grassroots effort and opportunity for green industry professionals to come together across the country for a day of giving back to their communities through volunteer landscape, lawn care, tree care, irrigation, and interior plantscaping projects.

"PLANET Day of Service is an opportunity for members of the green industry to demonstrate their commitment to community involvement and improving the quality of life," says Shayne Newman, Landscape Industry Certified Manager, chair of PLANET’s Public Relations Committee. "Our hope is to recruit even more volunteers than we have in years past – showcasing the environmental stewardship that lives within our industry."

In 2011, approximately 3,200 individuals participated in more than 200 projects in 43 states and Canada.

Interested participants for the 2012 PLANET Day of Service are encouraged to visit and register their projects at planetdayofservice.org. The Web site contains a planning guide, and the tools and resources to help in putting together an event that will most benefit the community. Also, this Web site allows interested participants and consumers to find a project in their area, a feature that PLANET hopes will help to further increase the number of volunteers.
