On May 14, RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) joined Lyme disease survivors and other stakeholder organizations to share knowledge and build awareness of the importance of tick-borne illness prevention at the 2013 CT Lyme Disease Seminar and Health Fair. The free, public event was hosted by the Ridgefield Lyme Disease Task Force on the campus of Western Connecticut State University.
RISE sponsored a booth at the event, which offered attendees the chance to be a hero in the fight against ticks by taking pictures in front of a green screen and keeping the image of their defense against Lyme disease. RISE also shared educational materials designed to teach families about the importance of tick checks” and tick population control. RISE’s Debug the Myths program aims to educate the community specifically about the strategic use of pesticide products for providing effective, reliable solutions to prevent and eradicate pest populations that cause disease and harm.
Jennifer Reid, Lyme disease survivor and co-founder of the Ridgefield Lyme Disease Task Force, has partnered with RISE in the past to build awareness and grow understanding of tick-borne diseases. Reid worked with RISE last year to host a MOMs club event focused on the importance of protecting families from ticks and Lyme disease. Reid has also acted as a media spokesperson and subject matter expert for RISE to raise Lyme disease awareness throughout Connecticut and New York.
The Ridgefield Lyme Disease Task Force is a nonprofit organization that provides education, prevention, support and advocacy for those suffering from Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. It was founded in 2003 in response to growing concern about tick-borne diseases in the Ridgefield community.
