Waco, Texas (November 29, 2011) The Grounds Guys¬ across North America banded together to honor Monika Day, November 8, 2011. Throughout the U.S. and Canada their teams dedicated time, services and donated household products valuing over $6,000.
On November 8, 2004, the van Stralen family suffered the tragic loss of their beloved sister, Monika Woerlen, along with her seven children. "We learned from this tragedy that life is short and the time we have with our loved ones is precious", said Peter Van Stralen, The Grounds Guys of Canada. "Since that fateful day we have experienced great comfort and strength from our faith and the unbelievable support that comes from pulling together as a family."
It is in the spirit of "family" that November 8 is dedicated as a day to honor the memory of Monika Woerlen and her children, by supporting as many families as possible in their time of need. In recognition of Monika, The Grounds Guys have made this day a day of volunteering and giving back. This year, locations across the United States and Canada, partnered with RMHC to give back to their communities by donating time, services and household products to benefit guest families at Ronald McDonald Houses in the area.
"The Ronald McDonald House¬ program offers more than just a place for families", said Ron Madera, president of The Grounds Guys. "It’s a ‘home-away-from-home where staff and volunteers strive to provide a sense of normalcy for their children and families during a chaotic and traumatic time. It is an honor to be a corporate partner with RMHC and be able to contribute to the atmosphere of compassion and understanding they bring to these families through the Charity’s cornerstone program."
