GTA to Host Turfgrass Institute & Trade Show

The Georgia Turfgrass Association will host the 2010 Turfgrass Institute & Trade Show at the Gwinnett Center in Duluth, Ga., December 8-9. NC/SC STMA to Hold Second Conference

The North and South Carolina chapters of the Sports Turf Managers Association will host the second annual NC/SC STMA conference and trade show from November 15-17 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The three-day event will offer on-the-field maintenance training, the Carolinas GCSA trade show, a golf outing and STMA education sessions featuring a panel discussion on field traffic tolerance. ANLA Announces Winner of Job Board Contest

The American Nursery & Landscape Association announced the winner of the ANLA Job Board’s “Big Fish, Little Pond” contest. Ralph DeGregorio, a plant and soil scientist out of Arlington, Mass., won an Apple iPad for posting his resume on the job board.

PLANET Members Participate in Day of Service

The Professional Landcare Network held its 14th annual Renewal & Remembrance event at Arlington National Cemetery. More than 450 individuals from across the nation participated, spending the day mulching, caring for and cabling trees with lightning protection, pruning, liming, planting and aerating the soil. The event began 14 years ago with a dozen volunteers and has grown to involve more than 300 companies.

Nine U.S. landscape architecture students spent two weeks studying the grounds surrounding the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Geneva and drafted a sustainable landscape design that can be phased in over five years. The project is sponsored by the U.S. Mission and the American Society of Landscape Architects. The students are David Bramer, Colleen Gilfrich, Michael Lindquist, Jennifer Obee, Kirsten Ostberg, Natalie Ross, Damon Sanchez, Michael Scholtz and Katherine Tooke.

PGMS to Honor John Deere, Bourne

The Professional Grounds Management Society announced that John Deere will receive the 2010 PGMS Gold Medal and Jeffrey Bourne, chief of the division of facilities and capital programs of the Montgomery County (Maryland) Department of Recreation, will receive the PGMS E. Earl Wilson Award. The honors will be presented during dinner ceremonies on October 29 at the Galt House in Louisville, Ky.
