TWCA Hosts AASCO Officials

The Turfgrass Water Conservation Alliance hosted Association of American Seed Control Officials members at its NexGen testing site in Albany, Ore. The focus of the visit was on drought stress and drought resistance work being conducted within species and the differences in varietal reactions to drought situations. The presentation was split into three parts, Digital Image Analysis, Drought Stress (Chronic vs. Acute) and the efforts of the TWCA.

CLCA Sponsors 4-H Science Day

The California Landscape Contractors Association became a California statewide sponsor for 4-H’s third annual National Science Experiment Day. This year’s experiment focused on water quality and the nation’s changing climate. It engaged youth of all ages to learn how carbon dioxide affects aquatic animals, plants, water quality and nutrient runoff.

TPI Field Day Sod Donated to Park

When Turfgrass Producers International held its Field Day at Pine Island Turf Nursery in Pine Island, N.Y., a great deal of turfgrass was harvested during equipment demonstrations. TPI members Chip Lain of Pine Island, Leonard DeBuck of DeBuck’s Sod Farms of New York and Thomas and Kevin Shuback of Shuback Farms collaborated in making arrangements to donate the harvested sod to Veterans Memorial Park in the village of Warwick. The new multipurpose field at the park was completely sodded within hours after Field Day activities had come to a close.

Project EverGreen Announces Director Transition

Project EverGreen announced that executive director Den Gardner will resign his position at the end of 2010, and green industry consultant Cindy Code will be named the new executive director effective January 1, 2011. Gardner helped create the organization in its transition from the former Evergreen Foundation in 2002 and managed it from 2003. Code has been a part of Project EverGreen since 2004 and served two years as president.
