Korlesky Receives LaWN Award

The Lawns of Wisconsin Network announced its 2010 Person of the Year Award winner: Tammy Korlesky of Weed Man, Middleton, Wis. Each year, LaWN asks its membership to submit nominations of candidates for the award. These nominations are for individuals who regularly demonstrate a passion for the lawn care industry as shown by the work they do for the companies that employ them.

WNA Presents Scholarship

The Wisconsin Nursery Association selected Sarah Jeanne Ricker to receive its $1,000 WNA Scholarship. Ricker is a senior at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, majoring in landscape architecture and horticulture. After her spring 2012 graduation from UW, she plans to complete a two-year internship and become a registered landscape architect.


College students compete in the Stihl-sponsored Small Engine Repair event, led by Eddie Anderson of Stihl.

PLANET Hosts Student Career Days

Over 870 students from 60 colleges converged upon Joliet Junior College in Joliet, Ill., for the 35th annual Professional Landcare Network Student Career Days. Stihl, Inc. again supported the event as the platinum sponsor and organizer of two competitions. This year’s top honors, along with a $5,000 check from Stihl, went to Brigham Young University, Provo.

PLANET’s Academic Excellence Foundation awarded Nicole Imber a $1,000 scholarship at the event. Imber, a student at Owens Community College, received the Stihl Landscape Operations Scholarship. She was one of 70 students to receive a scholarship at the AEF recognition reception.
