Planet Holds Renewal & Remembrance Event
The Professional Landcare Network held its 13th annual Renewal & Remembrance event at Arlington National and Historic Congressional cemeteries. Hundreds of landscape and lawn care professionals from across the nation brought crews to spend the day mulching, caring for and cabling trees with lightning protection, pruning, limbing, planting and aerating the soil. The Tree Care Industry Association partnered with PLANET to host the event, and event sponsors at the platinum level included Bayer Environmental Science, Husqvarna and Syngenta Lawn & Garden.
ANLA Participates in Launch of Immigration Reform Effort
The American Nursery & Landscape Association joined a coalition of national organizations to formally launch Reform Immigration FOR America, a united national effort to aggressively pursue legislative and executive action on comprehensive immigration reform. The coalition brings together a broad range of stakeholders, including employers, worker advocates, cultural organizations, unions and religious organizations.
SIMA Holds Snow & Ice Symposium
The Snow & Ice Management Association held its 12th annual Snow & Ice Symposium in Louisville, Ky. The four-day event featured a two-day trade show, two keynote sessions with Jeff Hargett and Mikhail Baranov, over 20 education sessions, a new anti-icing and deicing track with four sessions, roundtable discussions, Certified Snow Professional exam and awards banquet. New this year was a half-day equipment demonstration at Manning Equipment in Louisville.
Canada Blooms Moving to Direct Energy Centre
Landscape Ontario’s 13th annual Canada Blooms will be held at the Direct Energy Centre, Toronto, Ont., instead of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. The move will provide improved access for garden builders, exhibitors and guests. The show is scheduled for March 17-21, 2010.
ISA Certification Expands Computer-Based Testing
The International Society of Arboriculture now offers computer-based testing for four of its six certification exams at authorized testing centers. The computer-based ISA certification exams will be delivered exclusively through domestic and international Pearson Professional Centers, as well as Pearson VUE Authorized Test Center Select locations outside the United States. ASLA Announces 2009 Honors
The American Society of Landscape Architects announced the recipients of its 2009 honors, the highest awards it presents each year. The honors will be presented during the ASLA annual meeting in September. Honorees include Joseph E. Brown, EDAW, ASLA Medal; Richard W. Shaw, Design Workshop, Inc., Design Medal; Dennis Day, Kansas State University, Jot D. Carpenter Teaching Medal; Richard M. Daley, mayor of Chicago, Ill., Alfred B. LeGasse Medal; City Park District and City of Chicago, Medal of Excellence; Center for Planning Excellence, Olmsted Medal; EDAW/AECOM, Landscape Architecture Firm Award; and Daniel Winterbottom, University of Washington College of Architecture & Urban Planning, Community Service Award.
